Macclesfield is full of buildings that were not designed as modern houses. Silk mills became flats. Cottages in Bollington, Prestbury and the lanes still have stairs that turn too soon. The move fails when someone books a van for “a two-bed” and never looks at the landing.
Measure before you book
You want the narrowest door, the lowest beam, and the width of the landing where a sofa has to pivot. An upright piano or a large fridge needs the same check. If a piece will not turn, the choices are a window, a different piece, or leaving it. We will not force a frame and crack the wall.
Flat removals are built around this problem in the centre and in split houses in Hurdsfield. Cottages are often a house removal with the same stair question. Send photos with the quote.
Parking is part of the building
Mill doors open onto streets with bays, one-way systems and people trying to get to the station. Cottage doors open onto lanes. Cheshire East says you may load and unload for a move without a parking dispensation. That does not let you block a bus stop, a loading ban or a lane with no passing place.
Tell us the street name. “Near the mill” is not an address. If the lift must be booked, book it, and tell us the slot. If there is no lift, say which floor. A third floor with two turns is a different job from a ground-floor cottage with a path.
How to pack for a tight hall
Do not leave packing until the van arrives. There is no room. Box the kitchen the day before, keep books in small cartons, and stack them where they are not in the only exit. Label rooms. In a cottage, fragile items should be wrapped before they go down an uneven path.
Our packing service can do the glass and the kitchen if you would rather spend the last evening on the paperwork. Get a quote with the floor, the photos and both addresses. A quote stays valid for 3 months, which helps if the landlord’s lift slot moves.
