Downsizing means the new home is smaller than the old one. In Macclesfield that is often a move from a family house in Tytherington, Broken Cross or a village into a flat in the centre, a bungalow, or a smaller house nearer relatives. The van is the easy part if the list is honest. The hard part is what you are not taking.
Sort before you ask for a van
Walk the new place, or the floor plan, with a tape. A sofa that fitted a living room in Poynton may not turn into a mill flat. A wardrobe that was fine in a Wilmslow bedroom may be too deep. Sell, give away or leave behind before moving day. We move the list. We do not run a clearance of the rest unless that has been agreed as its own job, and we do not take rubbish to the tip as a surprise extra.
Flat removals are the right page if the new home is an apartment with a stair or a lift. A bungalow is usually a house removal with no stairs, which is simpler, and still needs the drive and the list.
Packing when there is less space
You have less hallway to work in, and more decisions about china you have owned for years. Packing can cover the kitchen and glass while you deal with paperwork. Label boxes by room in the new home, not by the old one. “Spare room” is useless if the new home has no spare room.
Books go in small boxes. Large cartons of hardbacks are how people get hurt on a stair, and they are miserable in a small flat with nowhere to put them.
Access and the quote
Tell us both addresses, the floors, and what is actually coming. A smaller list can mean a smaller vehicle, which also helps on a town-centre street. Get a quote once the list is real. It stays valid for 3 months, so you can finish sorting without the price drifting every week, as long as the list itself does not grow again.
Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book, especially for furniture you have decided is worth moving rather than replacing.
