Langley is a small village south-east of Macclesfield, past Sutton and below Macclesfield Forest and the reservoirs. It is quiet, stone-built in places, and strung along a road that narrows as you leave the larger village. Houses include cottages and family homes with short drives, gates and paths that are not level. There is no high street to park on and no station. The forest and the water are the setting, which is pleasant to live beside and awkward if a van is wider than the lane.

From 34 Market Pl we go south through the town and through Sutton, Macclesfield, then on to Langley. It is a short drive until the last stretch, which is the part that matters. Tell us if the road is single track, if you share a track, and if there is a place a rigid van can stop without blocking the only way in. We often use a smaller vehicle here even when the furniture would fit a larger one, because turning is the problem. A carry from a wider spot is an option if it is agreed first.

Furniture in these houses can be solid and the stairs tight. Photograph the landing. Packing is worth it for anything fragile that will be walked along an uneven path. We do not treat the forest car parks as a place to unload. The house is the address.

Hollinhey Primary, on Bell Avenue in Sutton, is the nearby school. The library and the hospital are in Macclesfield. Peak District information is the right source if you are asking about the hills, not about bins. Bins and council tax are Cheshire East. Warn us about low branches and a gate code before the day, not when we are at the bottom of the lane.

  • Council

    Cheshire East Council

Langley addresses are Cheshire East, in SK11. Bins on a rural round should be checked with the council, not assumed from a neighbour in town.

  • Rail

    Macclesfield station

No station in the village. Macclesfield station is back through Sutton and the town.

  • Police

    Cheshire Constabulary

101 unless there is immediate danger, then 999. Single-track roads around the forest need a clear passing place.

  • Health

    NHS 111

NHS 111 for urgent advice. Hospital care is at Macclesfield, a drive back through Sutton.

  • Health

    Macclesfield District General Hospital

The general hospital is in town. Build in the drive through Sutton if you have an appointment on moving day.

Moving in Langley: common questions

Is Langley the same as Sutton?

No. Sutton, Macclesfield is the larger village on the way. Langley is further out, towards the reservoirs and the forest.

Will you bring a smaller van?

If the lane needs it, yes. Tell us about width, gates and where a large van could stand without blocking the road.

Where do children go to primary school?

Hollinhey Primary is in Sutton, on Bell Avenue, which is the nearby village school. Check the current admissions rules.
