We do not keep a league table of broken objects. The pattern is obvious from any moving day. Thin, heavy, or loose things suffer. Solid wardrobes that were blanketed and strapped usually do not.
Glass and mirrors
Picture frames, cabinet doors, mirrors and uncovered wine glasses crack when a box is underfilled and they hit each other. Wrap each piece. Stand frames on edge. Do not put a mirror in a box of books. If the stair in a town-centre flat is tight, glass should be wrapped before we start carrying, not on the landing. Our packing service is there for this if you do not want to do it.
Screens and lamps
Televisions and monitors need a box that fits. Shade and base of a lamp should be separated. Marble or glass tops on tables should be lifted off and carried upright, not left clipped to a table that will flex on a path. Say if you have these when you get a quote.
Furniture that sheds parts
Drawers slide out on a slope. Legs unscrew. Shelves fall out of bookcases. Take out what is loose, bag the fixings, and tape the bag to the piece or put it in a labelled box. Beds that we dismantle should have the bolts kept together. A missing bolt is not dramatic. It is why the bed does not go back together at 6pm.
What the crew still needs from you
A clear path, floors we are allowed to protect, and an honest list. Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book. Cover is not a reason to skip blankets. House removals include wrapping of furniture on the list. They do not include repairing a vase you carried loose in the car and then blamed on the van.
If a piece is already cracked, tell us. We would rather note it than discover it at the other end and argue about a mark that was old.
