Parking a removal van in Macclesfield

Loading is allowed. Blocking a bus stop, a ban or a narrow lane is not. Here is how to plan the stop.

A removal van at the kerb on a Macclesfield street

The van has to stop somewhere legal for long enough to carry a house out. In Macclesfield that is often the hard part of the day, especially in the centre and on terraces.

What the council says

Cheshire East publishes rules for parking dispensations. A dispensation is a short, paid permission to park where you normally could not. The council’s own examples say they will not issue an on-street dispensation for moving house, because you can park to load and unload without one. They also list places they will not authorise: disabled bays, zigzags, school keep-clear markings, bus stops, taxi ranks, and streets with a loading ban.

Read it on the council site before you assume a yellow line is fine for an hour: parking dispensations. Parking enquiries are 0300 123 5020. This page does not repeat the council’s fee table. If you think you need a dispensation for something other than the move itself, ask them.

Centre, terraces and villages

Around Market Place and the streets towards Waters Green, bays are timed or reserved and some roads are one-way. Macclesfield Town Centre moves need the exact door, not “town”. Hurdsfield terraces are often a slope with cars both sides. Bollington adds a hill. Prestbury and Gawsworth add lanes where stopping in the wrong place blocks everyone.

A drive is the simple answer when you have one and the van fits. If not, we plan a short stop and a carry. We do not block a junction so the sofa has less far to walk.

What to tell us

The street, any permit zone, the distance from the nearest lawful stop to the door, and whether a lift slot exists. Photos help. House removals include this planning. Get a quote with the parking note included, not added on the morning. Quotes stay valid for 3 months.

On the day, move your own car first. Leave a gap for traffic. If a warden or a neighbour says the stop is unsafe, we move the van. Finishing ten minutes faster is not worth a blocked emergency route.
