Shrink the list
Anything you do not need in the new home should not be on the van. Sell it, give it away, or leave it if the agreement says you can. Lofts are where unused furniture hides. A shorter list can mean a smaller vehicle, especially if you are leaving a flat in the centre or only part of a house in Broken Cross or Tytherington.
Be honest the other way too. Forgetting the garage and adding it on the day does not save money. It creates a second conversation and sometimes a second trip.
Do the preparation
Pack before we arrive if you are able. Books in small boxes, rooms labelled, a path cleared, your car off the drive. Those steps shorten the day. If you only want help with glass and the kitchen, say that, rather than booking a full pack and then doing it yourself anyway.
Pick a date that is not the busiest Friday you can find, if your solicitor can live with it. Midweek is often easier to schedule. Quotes stay valid for 3 months, so you can ask early and still move later in that window if the list stays the same.
One journey, one plan
Extra stops, waiting for keys you could have collected earlier, and a second address “while we are out” all add time. Put them on the quote or drop them. House removals priced properly once are simpler than a local job that grows in the van.
